THIS IS MY STORY - KIM BRADY

In late 2007 I was so excited to learn we were growing our family! Our first daughter was born in 2006 and although we had essentially no idea how to be parents, we were loving every minute. I went to my 14 weeks check up with my daughter in tow. strapped in her stroller. only to see the concern on my Dr.’s face when they could not find a heartbeat. They tried to seem relaxed as we moved to the ultrasound room. After several minutes of probing, I was told that our baby no longer had a heartbeat. WHAT? How is that possible? We have already heard the heartbeat. I had no issues with my first pregnancy, and this caught me totally off guard. I remember standing in the parking garage and calling my husband and sobbing as I told him our baby had died. I couldn’t wrap my head around it. WHY Lord? Then again, several months later, I found out I was pregnant and miscarried a few weeks later. AGAIN Lord?

Years later, after two more healthy pregnancies and babies, I went to the Dr. for some weird symptoms and learned that I was pregnant again but this pregnancy was no longer progressing. After a series of tests that confirmed this baby had also passed away, they decided they needed to do surgery to figure out what was going on. A simple surgery turned more complicated as the Dr.s did not find a baby in my uterus. After more surgery, they found 2 babies in one of my Fallopian tubes. Twins! These sweet babies were already in Heaven before I even learned of their existence. Here we go again Lord! Although I wish they had been healthy and we would have had the chance to love and raise them as part of our family, God was faithful to once again walk with me through this trial. I have been comforted many times by Isaiah 43: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and when you pass through the

rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Isreal, your Savior”.

God does not ever promise in His Word that I will have it easy in this life but He does promise to walk with me when it isn’t! My hope is in a God that does not change even when our circumstances do. A God that is good, even when our circumstances don’t feel that way. And this is why I can rejoice even in trial.

Was I sad? Of course, overwhelmingly so! I felt the loss of life and the sadness of that loss but even in that pain I was able to have hope. I thought of this song many times when all of this happened and I love the line that says…”What if my greatest disappointments or the aching of this life is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy?” But if you read this and there is anything in you that feels like you don’t have this hope or that you can’t rejoice through suffering...I would plead with you to consider the cross. It is by God’s grace that I am not angry but thankful! And without the cross changing my life, I would be a bitter, angry woman.

Jesus Christ lived the perfect life that you couldn’t live and gave Himself for you on the cross. He died the death you should have died because you have sinned -- and rose 3 days later so you could have eternal life.

Once you turn from your sins and trust in Jesus, your greatest enemy, death, has already been defeated. That puts all other trials in this life into perspective. Don’t let today pass you by without considering who Jesus is and what he did for you.
